A Vote of Confidence!

Thanks to the wonderful citizens of Currituck, our county stands to once again move to the forefront in good government. The a-e-r-o team of Vance Aydlett, Owen Etheridge, John Rorer, and Paul O'Neal are ready to take up the torch and work hard to address the needs of our people. No longer does 'The Totem' have to take a back seat and be the brunt of partisan politics. This group will work across the board to fulfill the tasks at hand. The voters showed overwhelmingly they were disappointed in the workings of our sitting board and that they have confidence in the first new 7-member board that will be lead by the 'Reliable, Respectable, and Responsible aero team.

Thank you Currituck Voters and Congratulations to our good Candidates!

These results had nothing to do with disappointment with this sitting board and everything to do with race a straight party voting.

Reliably litigious; IRrespective of common sense and IRresponsible spenders describes the previous republican board. May I say that 2of the 3 describe the previous democrat board. There is no celebration in this vote. Straight party voting for the national led us to this outcome and once again we the citizens will pay.

Straight vote was NOT the issue in regards to race. Presidential votes were totally separate and there were no race choices in the local selections that I'm aware of. Also, if you look at the demographics for our county, you'll see the registered voters are nearly equal (aprx 5600 Dems, 5300 Unas and 5100 Reps)for each group. So yes, the Republicans have the least number of the 3. Those extra votes had to come from somewhere besides the GOP.
As for celebration, whether you are for the winners or not, at least now we have a board with a chance for choice and not simply a one-sided partisan good ole boy system. I think you'll find that type of leadership is what decided the vote for Currituck citizens.

"no race choices in the local selections" What an interesting remark.
Are you saying race was the factor in the presidential for Currituck county? And if so, does it follow that this factor pushed the R straight ticket?

I agree a mixed board is good. We have not fared well under either extreme, but I think it has more to do with personalities than parties. I see good ol' boys all round. Good governance is the issue. And once again the citizens find a way to put former commissioners that have proven to not be good stewards back in the job (D's and R's). Let us hope for the best.

Anonymous, I think my lead statement explains quite clearly race had nothing to do with straight party voting and the election of our 4 GOP commissioner candidates. My comment was in response to sharon's statement that it had everything to do with the election of the Republican candidates at the local level. I agree with you personalities are a very important part of the way governing is done and I have every confidence the 'new' group going in will conduct themselves with dignity and work as a body (along with the current members)for the betterment of Currituck.
